VeryDarkMan has apologised to members of Nigeria’s security forces over a controversial remark he made during his speech at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference.
The social media activist had described the military, police and other security personnel as the “unknown gunmen”, a comment that drew criticism from some Nigerians.
Critics accused him of making a broad statement about security operatives and undermining those who genuinely protect Nigerians.
Reacting to the backlash, VeryDarkMan admitted that his comments were unfair to many security personnel. However, he maintained that he has evidence to support some of the concerns he raised.
He said his choice of words and the way he delivered his speech may have wrongly portrayed security operatives as a whole.
In his words:
“I wasn’t fair to a lot of people, particularly where I said the military, the police and other security operatives are the unknown g√nmen. I have evidence to back it up, but the way I made the speech was not fair. There are still a lot of good security operatives.”
His apology comes as discussions continue over his NBA conference remarks and the role of security agencies in tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
