Former Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has explained why he chose to join Manchester City, saying he wanted a fresh challenge and hopes to help the club win more trophies.
The Argentina international completed his move from Chelsea to City for a British-record £125m fee.
Fernández said City’s winning mindset and the quality of its squad were key factors behind his decision.
As reported by BBC Sport on Wednesday, he said, “I could not be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies. This is a club built for success,” Fernández said.
The 25-year-old also wants to learn from his new teammates and improve as a player.
“If you look across the squad, City have quality in every area. I want to learn from my new teammates and become a better player,” he added.
Fernández will reunite with manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with him at Chelsea.
His move comes after a difficult spell at Chelsea, where some supporters booed him before his departure. Still, Fernández said, “Chelsea will always be in my heart,” in an open letter to the club.
He is now focused on City and added, “I give absolutely everything and I can promise Manchester City that I will continue now I’m here,” he said.
