3 Killed, 2 Injured In Lagos Clash Over N200

Three people have been killed and two others injured after a violent clash in the Ikola area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Police Command said the incident happened on Thursday after suspected area boys allegedly stopped a tricycle rider and demanded N200 from him.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, the rider refused to pay, prompting the group to allegedly seize his tricycle. He later returned with some people, leading to a violent confrontation between the two sides.

“Three (3) persons were reportedly killed, while two (2) others sustained injuries. Some buildings were also reportedly set ablaze during the ensuing violence. The deceased and injured persons have been taken to the Military Hospital, Yaba, for necessary medical attention and other procedures,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, visited the scene with the Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Afolabi Owolabi, to assess the situation and coordinate the security response.

Police personnel from the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps Task Force, Tactical Squad, Police Mobile Force, Eko Strike Force and Violent Crime Response Unit were deployed to the area.

The command said the situation is now under control, while security operatives continue to maintain law and order and monitor the area to prevent further violence.

An investigation has also begun, with the police warning that anyone found responsible will face the full weight of the law.

Residents were urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. The public was also asked to provide credible information that could help the investigation.
