Veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri has explained why he and other entertainers support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, pointing to his financial help to actors and road projects in the South-West.
Speaking on the African A-List programme, Quadri said Tinubu had supported members of the entertainment industry since his time as Lagos State governor.
He recalled how the president paid the hospital bills of late actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, during his illness.
“People do not understand it. It is not about what we want to eat. He has been taking care of those of us in the industry since he was the governor of Lagos,” Quadri said.
The actor also recalled Tinubu’s support after actress Moji Olaiya died in Canada in 2017. He said he joined Fathia Balogun, Yomi Fabiyi and other colleagues to visit Tinubu’s home in Bourdillon, Lagos, to seek money to bring her remains back to Nigeria.
“When Moji Olaiya died, I, Fathia Balogun, Yomi Fabiyi and others were trying to bring her back from abroad. We went to Bourdillon to seek financial support.
“He asked us for the cost and paid it. It was a total of $25,000,” he said.
Quadri also praised Tinubu’s efforts on the Papalanto-Sagamu and Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode roads, while admitting that more work was needed.
“I know it is not enough, but I praise him,” he said.
He also cited pension payments and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as positive steps under Tinubu’s government.
His comments come as preparations and discussions around the 2027 general elections continue.
In 2022, Quadri joined Jide Kosoko, Fausat Balogun, Taiwo Hassan and Femi Adebayo in backing Tinubu’s presidential bid ahead of the 2023 election.
