Omoyele Sowore has big plans for transport in Nigeria if he wins the 2027 presidential election. The activist and politician wants drone taxis, better inland waterways and a real fix for flooding.
Sowore spoke in an interview. He said he would dredge a waterway linking the Lagos Lagoon to Epe. That would create another travel route and also help with the state’s drainage problem.
He said the project would let people move straight from the lagoon to Epe without sitting in traffic. He compared it to Amsterdam’s waterways.
Sowore also slammed Lagos’ drainage system. He said waterways and dikes could cut flooding. He added that Nigeria should look into air transport technology too, including drone taxis.
Asked if drone taxis could really happen under him, he said he would let companies working on the technology test it in Nigeria.
He predicted Nigerians could start using drone taxis within his first four years in office. He explained the electric aircraft would not need regular airports or helicopter pads to reach places like Lekki.
Sowore said the technology’s collision-avoidance systems could make it harder for kidnappers to target passengers. He recalled how soldiers struggled to stop commercial drones monitoring elections in 2019.
He said Nigeria could become a big hub for drone taxi manufacturing and transport. The aircraft would run on batteries, he confirmed, as part of the country’s push towards green energy.
He also projected that drone taxis could carry about 200,000 workers to their offices in Abuja by 2030 or 2035.
The interviewer pushed back on the timeline, noting a president elected in 2027 would wrap a first term in 2031. Sowore said infrastructure should outlive the governments that build it.
