Vice President Kashim Shettima has questioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s ability to manage a modern economy, taking aim at his educational background and his call to restore the fuel subsidy.
Speaking at an event, Shettima accused Atiku of supporting a return to the subsidy system for political reasons. He argued that leading an economy in the digital age requires the right skills and knowledge.
The Vice President also claimed that Atiku’s training at the Kano School of Hygiene did not prepare him to handle the demands of a modern economy.
“That’s the painful truth,” Shettima declared, calling on Nigerians to make careful choices when deciding who should lead the country.
He also questioned Atiku’s understanding of infectious diseases, using flu, COVID-19 and Ebola to make his point.
“Even that certificate in sanitation, I know he will find it difficult to distinguish the difference between flu and COVID, that are airborne disease, and Ebola, that is human-to-human contact ailment.”
Shettima further urged Nigerians to pay attention to key issues surrounding leadership and governance rather than overlook them.
He also defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, saying the President made tough decisions because he understood the situation and the factors behind them.
“The President took those painful decisions because he understands the dynamics,” he added.
