A 15-year-old girl identified as Amarachi has been rescued after she was allegedly kept inside a toilet for several months by her employers in Abuloma, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The teenager, who reportedly comes from Ebonyi State, was living with a couple, Eze Simeon and his wife, as a domestic worker.
Reports said Amarachi was locked inside the toilet as punishment after she was accused of committing an offence. She was allegedly neglected and fed only once daily with leftover food.
The girl was rescued on Tuesday, September 15, after she reportedly cried for help while the couple were away. Neighbours heard her and contacted officers at the Abuloma Police Division.
Police officers responded and rescued her from the house.
A video shared on X by influencer Chuks Eric showed police arriving at the residence and bringing Amarachi out. A man reportedly living in the house was also arrested.
A woman in the video was heard giving information to the police and expressing anger over the alleged treatment. She said the man should have been beaten and locked up and called for his wife’s arrest over her alleged role.
The full details of the alleged abuse remain unclear. It is also unknown whether the couple have been charged or what offence Amarachi was accused of committing.
Rivers police have also not issued a detailed statement.
