South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has removed Lagos from the schedule of her APOP World Tour, days after her planned December 22 concert in Nigeria faced calls for a boycott.
A check of the singer’s official tour website on Friday showed that the Lagos date, previously set for December 22, was no longer on the itinerary.
The revised schedule still includes the announced dates across Europe, North America and South Africa, but Nigeria is no longer listed.
Tyla unveiled the APOP World Tour on Monday, naming Lagos as her only Nigerian stop. The tour is due to end with shows in Cape Town on January 4 and Johannesburg on January 9.
The announcement drew strong reactions online, with some Nigerians calling for a boycott over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Some users said no South African artiste should perform in Nigeria while reports of attacks on Nigerians persisted. Others argued that musicians should not be blamed for political or social issues.
The Lagos removal comes amid fresh concerns about the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa, following reports of alleged xenophobic attacks and the deaths of Nigerian nationals, including Chika Ibe in Cape Town.
As of filing, Tyla and her management had not publicly explained the removal of the Lagos concert.
The concert promoters had also not announced whether the show was cancelled or postponed.
