The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says Chinese counterfeiters are establishing manufacturing plants and logistics networks in Nigeria to produce and distribute fake products.
NAFDAC Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Martins Iluyomade, said intelligence showed the counterfeit trade had moved from importing fake goods from China to producing and distributing them locally.
“Before, to fake a product, you needed to go to China to bring it. Now, they are here with us,” Iluyomade said.
“They identify moving products, send samples to China, and distribute them locally through logistics companies they own.”
He said NAFDAC was shutting down illegal logistics facilities linked to foreign nationals allegedly involved in the network.
NAFDAC Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye said the agency had seized and destroyed regulated products worth over N1.5 trillion in Lagos and the south-east.
She added that 64 counterfeiters were convicted between June 2025 and June 2026, including an operator sentenced to five years for running an illegal beverage laboratory.
