A social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, has been killed at his home in Gaida, Kano State, with the circumstances of his death still unclear.
Former Kano State governor and opposition politician, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, disclosed the incident in a Tuesday post on X, saying Dan Shagamu’s body was found in a pool of blood.
“I am deeply disturbed by the killing of the renowned social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, whose body was found today in a pool of his blood at his home in Kano. Dan Shagamu was brutally slaughtered in a horrific attack,” Kwankwaso said.
He urged the Kano State Government to establish an investigative panel and bring those responsible to justice.
Amnesty International Nigeria also condemned the killing and demanded a thorough investigation.
“In a democracy, outspoken persons or critics are accommodated, listened to, not killed,” the organisation said.
Kano NDC Chairman Husaini Mai Riga described the killing as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable”, urging security agencies to investigate, prosecute those responsible and strengthen protection for journalists across the state.
