Afrobeats star Davido is facing criticism online after attacking rapper Erigga over comments about family wealth.
Erigga had on Wednesday praised musicians who built their careers without financial support from their families.
He wrote on X, “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and have to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
Davido, who comes from a wealthy family, responded by defending artistes who were born into privilege. Mocking Erigga’s family background, he wrote in Pidgin English, “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top. Comot here with that your useless motivation. Imbecile.”
The exchange drew strong reactions, with several users accusing Davido of insecurity and having an inferiority complex.
@HonitelHQ said, “You have a very low self esteem and it is really pathetic. There is no place in that tweet where he mentioned your name. You are not the only artist in Nigeria that comes from money. The tweet isn’t even a sub but your insecurity won’t let you ignore something that isn’t about you.”
Other users also questioned why Davido responded to Erigga’s post, while some criticised his use of insults and described his reaction as unnecessary drama.
