At least six soldiers were reportedly killed after suspected bandits attacked Kasuwar Daji in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted more than 70 residents.
Sources from the community told Vanguard by phone that the attackers invaded Kasuwar Daji around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after overrunning the military outpost in the area.
The sources claimed six soldiers were killed, while more than 70 residents were taken into the bush. They also alleged that several shops were looted during the attack.
A resident, Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar Daji, said the bandits arrived in large numbers and immediately opened fire to overpower the soldiers stationed there to protect the community.
“Our calls to Zamfara state and the Federal Government is to come to the aide of Zamfara people generally on this insecurity bedivelling the state.
We really in danger as if the bandits can overpowered military and succeeded in their operation on innocent citizens,” Aminu Kasuwar Daji said.
Former Deputy Speaker Hon. Namadi Kasuwar Daji also confirmed the attack during a telephone interview with Vanguard. He said he was outside the state when relatives informed him about the incident.
“I was told that the bandits have even killed soldiers but I was not told the actual number, again I was told that the bandits after looting shops to do away with foodstuffs, drinks and other properties, have also abducted unspecified number of residents to the bush.
When contacted, the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said he was not aware of the attack but promised to confirm it with the Divisional Police Officer in the area. As of the time this report was filed, he had not responded to further calls.
