Four people have died and 13 others were injured after a Dongfeng truck and a Toyota Hiace bus collided on Alaro City Bridge in Epe, Lagos State.
The crash happened around 8 am on Wednesday, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which blamed excessive speed for the accident.
In a post on its official X account, the agency said, “Earlier today, on Alaro City Bridge, an accident involving a Dongfeng truck and a Toyota Hiace bus occurred due to overspeeding, resulting in 13 casualties and 4 lives were lost as well,” LASTMA said.
LASTMA said its officers were sent to the scene to control traffic and help clear the road. A tow truck also arrived to remove the damaged vehicles.
“A tow truck is already on the ground for prompt evacuation of the affected vehicles, and officers are on the ground to manage the backlog of traffic,” LASTMA added.
The accident occurred around the Alaro City area of Epe, a fast-growing part of Lagos that links communities and major developments along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
Road accidents remain a major cause of deaths and injuries in Nigeria. Overspeeding, dangerous driving and poor road conditions are among the factors often linked to fatal crashes.
Further investigations are expected to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.
LASTMA urged motorists in the area to drive carefully and cooperate with traffic officials as efforts continue to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow.
