The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the deaths of children in separate incidents in the state.
In the first case, Fatima Ibrahim was arrested after her six-year-old stepson, Mubarak Ibrahim, allegedly died after drinking something she gave him.
The incident happened on October 16, 2026, in Kwaimawa village, Alkaleri Local Government Area. Police spokesperson SP Nafi’u Habib said the boy started vomiting uncontrollably shortly after taking the drink.
He was first taken to the Primary Health Centre in Kwaimawa and later moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, where he received treatment for eight days. However, he died on October 24.
Habib said detectives arrested Fatima after the village head reported the incident. He added that investigations were ongoing.
In another case, police arrested Sadiku Musa over the death of five-year-old Habiba Abubakar in Zaila village, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
The girl had been reported missing before her body was discovered in a small pit behind the village at about 7am on October 24. Officers from Soro Division secured the scene before arresting Musa in connection with the case.
Both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
