Mother, Children, 3 Others Die In Sokoto Road Crash

At least six people, including three members of one family, have died in a road accident involving a FishEye Wagon and a trailer along the Tambuwal-Sokoto road in Sokoto State.

The crash happened on Thursday afternoon before Shagari town. The wagon, which carried about nine passengers, was travelling from Tambuwal to Sokoto when it collided with the trailer.

Imrana Zaki Tambuwal, who is familiar with the incident, told Daily Trust that the driver had picked up passengers in Tambuwal after dropping off others from Sokoto.

Abdurrahman Maidamma Tambuwal, a relative of three victims, said four family members had set out to visit a sick female relative in Sokoto. The woman, who works for their elder sister, had fallen ill, and the family initially feared she had died. They later learnt that she was in a prolonged coma.

“This was why four of them arranged to travel to Sokoto to check on her,” he said.

He said the family was devastated by the news, adding that the victims had said goodbye before leaving.

“We were thrown into confusion when we received the news of their death. Before they left, they said goodbye to people, and looking back now, it was as if they were bidding farewell to the world,” he said.

The three relatives who died were Rukayya Ahmad Gohe, her daughter, Mupeedah Abubakar, and her sister, Atika Ahmad Gohe. Rukayya’s son, Ishaq Abubakar, survived and is receiving treatment in Sokoto.

Imrana Zaki identified the other deceased as Umar Ma’azu and Janaidu Aliyu. The sixth victim was the driver, whose identity was unknown. Three other passengers were injured and hospitalised.

The deceased were buried around 5pm on Thursday according to Islamic rites.

FRSC spokesperson in Sokoto, SC Abdulganiyyu Romo, said he was in Katsina for training newly recruited personnel.
