A heated exchange between Channels Television’s morning show host and Segun Sowunmi has gone viral following questions about his political role and his wife’s recent career move.
The presenter questioned whether Sowunmi’s appointment to the APC campaign council and his wife Oluyemi Adeyemi-Sowunmi’s move from Lagos Administrative Secretary to head Electoral Operations for the 2027 elections were rewards for his support for President Tinubu.
Sowunmi, a former spokesperson for ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, angrily rejected the suggestion. He defended his wife as a career civil servant who had spent her entire working life with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He also pointed out that Peter Obi secured votes in Lagos during her time as the state’s administrative secretary. Sowunmi insisted that her new posting was an internal decision and had nothing to do with his political choices.
“I take exception to that nonsense that you just said. That’s a civil servant you are talking about there. She is a level 17 officer. She did her youth service in INEC and has worked with INEC all her life. Up till this posting, which comes within their organization and has nothing to do with anybody, I am not even sure the President knows. She was, up till the last election, the admin secretary of Lagos, and Peter Obi got the numbers. Did they stop him from getting the numbers? You guys are making this country so difficult for people to live in.
That’s a level 17 officer. Don’t you dare say that about me! Reward who? Reward who?” he said angrily.
