Two young men said to be bricklayers were reportedly caught by youths in Obodogba, Okpanam, near Asaba, Delta State, on Tuesday, while allegedly trying to bury a little girl.
The incident came to light after residents raised the alarm. The suspects reportedly dug up the girl’s body before they were taken to Okpanam Divisional Police Station for investigation.
The cause of the girl’s death remains unclear. Claims that she may have been sexually assaulted have also not been independently verified.
A video shared on X showed youths dragging the two men towards a field and beating them. In the footage, a voice warned, “Don’t kill him but let’s take them to the police station.”
One of the suspects denied any wrongdoing and rejected claims that he was a ritualist. He said, “I am innocent, I am not a ritualist. The girl is my daughter.”
When asked who killed the girl, he replied, “She died, nobody killed her.”
A fact-check by SaharaReporters found that the video was recent and original. However, the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death and the allegations against the two men have not been confirmed.
