“I Know What That Means” – Tinubu Reacts As Abuja Transport Fare Drops From N1,500 To N500

President Bola Tinubu has reacted to reports that CNG-powered buses have reduced transport fares in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The development follows a viral video shared under the Federal Government and Nigeria Governors’ Forum’s Affordable CNG Transport Programme.

In the video, some passengers said the cost of travelling from Masaka to Berger in Abuja had dropped from N1,500 to N500, saving them N1,000.

Tinubu reacted to the development in a post on his official X account on Sunday, saying: “I know what that means when you have a family to feed, bills to pay and other responsibilities waiting at home.”

The video and the president’s response have since attracted mixed reactions on X. While some users praised the initiative, others criticised it.

However, checks by Daily Post showed that CNG-powered buses charged N500 for trips from Berger to Nyanya Junction. The report also noted that the buses were rarely available, leaving many passengers with no choice but to use other commercial vehicles.

Tinubu had earlier promised that the CNG initiative would bring cheaper transport fares across Nigeria from October 1, 2026. However, many Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of the promised reduction.

The development comes amid an ongoing debate over the Federal Government’s proposed 30-day fuel discount at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
