A man has been arrested over the alleged murder of his lover and the disappearance of her 16-month-old daughter in Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State.
The suspect, from Onicha in Ezinihitte Mbaise, allegedly abducted the woman and her daughter on September 19, 2026. He was accused of killing the woman, burying her in a shallow grave and selling the toddler. He also allegedly demanded ₦5 million from the victim’s family.
Reports say the suspect was in a romantic relationship with the deceased, a widow who lost her husband a few years ago. What led to the incident remains unclear.
The woman’s body has reportedly been exhumed and taken to a morgue, but her daughter is still missing. The suspect was reportedly arrested after police tracked a phone number allegedly used during ransom negotiations.
The case has also brought up claims about the suspect’s past. In 2015, he was reportedly mentioned in connection with the alleged murder of his 25-year-old pregnant girlfriend, whose body was said to have been buried in a shallow grave within the same compound.
Further claims suggest he escaped from prison and was never recaptured. He was also allegedly linked to a similar incident about four years ago, which was reportedly settled out of court.
These past allegations remain unverified, and their connection to the current case is unclear.
The suspect is reportedly in police custody as investigations continue, while the search for the missing toddler remains a major concern.
