A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested after he was allegedly caught taking a promotion examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, who works with the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service in Abuja.
Monsuru was caught on Wednesday, the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where the test was held.
Security officials deployed on the orders of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to monitor the examination reportedly arrested him.
According to a statement by the minister’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, Monsuru said his father was sick but was on the university premises where the examination was taking place.
He later confessed that his father had asked him to write the examination for him.
When asked his father’s age, Monsuru said he was between 67 and 68 years old. His father, however, said he would turn 60 in February 2027.
The father also told officials that he completed secondary school in 1982 and primary school in 1977.
After making statements to operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation.
