Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old Lawisi Safiyanu over the alleged stabbing of 25-year-old Muhammad Abba during a dispute over a N500 balance for a mobile phone in Dutse Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.
Adam said the incident happened around 12:30am on October 1, 2026, at Chamo village, Dutse LGA.
He said preliminary investigation showed that Abba bought a mobile phone from Safiyanu for N1,500 but paid N1,000 and could not immediately pay the remaining N500.
The unpaid balance reportedly caused an argument between the two men. During the dispute, Safiyanu allegedly used a knife to stab Abba.
The victim was taken to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, where he died while receiving treatment.
Police said Safiyanu was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.
The command also said investigation into the case had been completed and the suspect had been charged to court to face the law.
