Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have stopped two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims in different parts of Zamfara State.
The Media Information Officer, Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Danja said troops in Maru Local Government Area received information on September 27 that terrorists had abducted villagers in Kade Daba Village, Kanoma District.
The troops quickly moved to the area and engaged the terrorists, rescuing three victims. Further operations led to the rescue of another victim, taking the total to four.
In Tsafe Local Government Area, troops on a picketing operation along the Tsafe-Funtua road heard gunshots around Kwanoni. They moved towards the area and met terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground.
The troops engaged them, forcing them to flee. Before their arrival, the terrorists had set a Sharon vehicle on fire while trying to abduct its occupants. The occupants escaped before the vehicle was fully engulfed.
Danja added that six people were rescued from another vehicle that lost control after the gunshots. The vehicle was later towed away to clear the road.
The Theatre Commander praised the troops and urged the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies through official channels.
