Mac Allister Reveals How Liverpool’s Contract Decision Left Him “Very, Very Sad”

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed he is “very, very sad” after the club decided against offering him a new contract.

The Argentina international was told during the summer that Liverpool could not extend his deal, even as Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch agreed new contracts.

“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract which, of course, makes me very, very sad,” Mac Allister said.

The 27-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 and has two years remaining on his current deal, said his commitment is obvious.

“Everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training and games,” he said.

While happy for Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, their new deals made his own situation harder.

“That makes me very happy because they deserve it. At the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine,” he said.

He added: “The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100% until the last day I am here,” while stressing: “I love this club. I love the fans. I know very well this is an amazing club and this city has something very special.”

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola said Mac Allister remains important: “The important thing is he wants to be here,” adding that “there is still a lot of time to talk about those contract situations.”
