Tension reportedly gripped Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road shortly after the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, arrived in the state.
Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, disclosed the incident in a post on her X handle, alongside a video showing the blocked route.
Umoh said the road was blocked shortly after Obi and his entourage arrived in Benue State.
“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” she wrote.
In another video, some individuals were seen running after vehicles in Obi’s convoy. Umoh alleged that they were trying to attack the entourage.
However, it was not immediately clear who the individuals were or what led to the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Benue State Government nor the police had publicly responded to the allegation.
