Uber will officially end its operations in Nigeria on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after 12 years of providing ride-hailing services in the country.
The company informed users of the decision through an email, explaining that it followed a “thorough review” of its business operations in Nigeria.
Uber entered the Nigerian market in 2014 with its launch in Lagos. It later became one of the leading ride-hailing platforms linking passengers with independent drivers across the country.
In its message to customers, Uber said, “After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026.”
The company thanked Nigerians for using its platform for daily trips, family visits and movement around cities.
“Since we first launched in Lagos in 2014, it has been an absolute privilege to be a part of your daily life connecting you with independent transportation providers,” the company said.
“We know this may cause disruption to your routine, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” Uber said.
Uber’s departure marks a major change in Nigeria’s ride-hailing sector, where it has competed with other major platforms for over a decade.
Users with final account-related enquiries have been advised to contact Uber before September 23, 2026, the deadline set by the company.
