2027: None of Tinubu’s Challengers Can Improve Nigeria, Including Obi — Datti

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has said President Bola Tinubu should prepare to leave office but argued that none of the politicians seeking to replace him in 2027, including his former running mate Peter Obi, would improve the country.

Speaking on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Baba-Ahmed said, “I will simply advise uncle (Tinubu) to please prepare to hand over and move away, but not to the people contesting against him because none of them will improve Nigeria.”

When asked if he was referring to all opposition figures, he replied, “None of that part. Tinubu should leave the stage. All those people contesting against him, too—they were all in bed together at some point or another.”

Pressed on whether Obi was included, Baba-Ahmed responded, “Including Peter Obi, I’m sorry to say.”

He noted that Obi had once belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party while it was in power, adding that his vision was for “a whole new Nigeria.” He also asked, “Tell me one politician who has never been in a ruling party. Tell me.”

Baba-Ahmed maintained that he had never belonged to a ruling party, saying he left the APC after its formation and never held its membership card.

Baba-Ahmed and Obi ran on the Labour Party ticket in the 2023 presidential election. He later joined the Peoples Redemption Party, while Obi moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress after leaving the African Democratic Congress.
