Two Police Officers Detained For Allegedly Extorting N150,000 From A Traveller In Nasarawa

Two police officers attached to the Nasarawa State Police Command have been detained at the Force Headquarters in Abuja over allegations that they framed a traveller and demanded N150,000 for his release.

The Police Complaint Response Unit announced their detention in a statement on Thursday, November 5, 2026, following a viral video showing armed officers attached to the Ado Area Command arguing with two young travellers.

The travellers were reportedly returning from a wedding and heading to the airport to catch a flight back to Lagos State.

The police identified the officers involved and invited them for questioning.

“The officers captured in the viral video from Ado Area Command, Nasarawa State, have been identified and presently at the @PoliceNG_CRU Force Headquarters, Abuja, today, 5th November 2026, for an interview in connection with the ongoing investigation,” the statement read.

The unit also disclosed that the team leader, Insp. Sani Mikailu, reportedly died two days earlier under circumstances that are yet to be established. Only two officers therefore appeared for the interview and were detained pending the investigation and further orders from the Inspector-General of Police.

Meanwhile, the viral video alleged that the officers stopped the travellers, took one of them to an isolated location, seized his phone and drove him to their station.

His friend later arrived with a lawyer and met the DPO, who allegedly demanded N100,000 to secure his release after officers claimed they found weed on him.

Another N50,000 was reportedly demanded for fuel. When the victim refused to write a statement implicating himself, the officers allegedly wrote one claiming drugs were found in his possession.
