The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has revealed that he is taking English lessons to improve his speaking skills.
He made this known while speaking to Nollywood actor Adams Kehinde, also known as Lege Miami, and other guests at a rally organised to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking in Yoruba, MC Oluomo admitted that both he and Lege Miami struggle with spoken English. He said he had started taking classes despite travelling to different countries.
“Neither of us speaks English fluently, so I am taking classes to improve. I travel around the world. I am a citizen of America,” he said.
He also revealed that his children, who live in the United States, speak English better than him. According to him, they work as nurses, a doctor and an engineer.
“My children can speak better than me. My children in the US are nurses, a doctor and an engineer,” he added.
MC Oluomo further explained that he sometimes allows his children to speak on his behalf when he finds it difficult to express himself in English.
His admission comes after he faced public criticism in April 2025 over a viral video in which he pronounced “kudos” as “kundusi” while addressing union members in Abuja.
At the time, he defended himself, saying English fluency did not determine success.
“Grammar won’t finish Nigeria. I might not understand the English language, but I understand Yoruba,” he said.
He also challenged critics to compare their achievements with those of his children, whom he described as highly educated citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom.
