Suspected bandits have reportedly killed some Nigerian police officers after attacking a vehicle carrying them from Sokoto State to Zamfara State for a special duty assignment.
The incident happened on Monday while the officers were travelling to Zamfara, according to information gathered by SaharaReporters.
Details of the attack remain unclear, including the exact number of officers killed and whether any of them survived.
Photographs obtained showed the dead officers inside a bus, with their hands and legs seemingly tied with ropes.
Other images showed the officers’ belongings scattered on the ground as people gathered at the scene. The vehicle used to transport them also had visible bloodstains.
The attack adds to growing security concerns across northwestern Nigeria, where armed groups known as bandits continue to attack communities, ambush travellers, kill residents and abduct people for ransom.
Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina and Kaduna are among the states facing repeated attacks. Rural communities, highways and other vulnerable areas remain frequent targets
