Man United Name 3 Managers to Replace Carrick as Sack Gets Closer After Another Painful Defeat

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up three managers as possible replacements for Michael Carrick amid growing concerns over the club’s recent results.

According to talkSPORT, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, former Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte have attracted interest from different officials at Old Trafford.

United’s concerns have increased after a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday extended their winless run to five games in all competitions. The result followed a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Defender Lisandro Martinez also criticised technical director Jason Wilcox over what he reportedly considered a lack of squad investment after the Atletico loss.

Carrick’s team will hope to recover when they face rivals Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, chief live football anchor Adrian Durham questioned Carrick’s chances of staying in charge.

“Does it feel like an inevitability? Absolutely, that Michael Carrick will go,” Durham said.

He warned that Carrick needed better results to strengthen his position and questioned his tactical changes against Atletico.

Nagelsmann and Conte are reportedly available for immediate appointments. Conte left Napoli by mutual consent in May, while Nagelsmann reportedly left his Germany role after the team’s World Cup round-of-32 exit against Paraguay.

United recruitment director Christopher Vivell is reportedly backing Nagelsmann internally.

Hurzeler, however, remains contracted to Brighton until 2029 after signing an extension in May. Wilcox reportedly favours the German, whose side have won four of their opening six league games to sit third.

Hurzeler also guided Brighton to an EFL Cup victory over United in September.

No formal decision has been reported, leaving Carrick’s future dependent on upcoming results.
