The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has dismissed more than 40 personnel in the past two and a half years over alleged corruption and financial malpractice.
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during a meeting with media executives and journalists. He said more than five dismissed staff are currently being prosecuted, while case files for others are being prepared.
“In the past two and a half years or three years of my service, I have asked them to dismiss over 40 staff on account of corruption and financial malpractice.
“More than five of them are being prosecuted at the moment. You can follow those cases in court; they are public knowledge,” the anti-graft agency boss told journalists.
Olukoyede said the commission had introduced a gift policy and would require staff to declare assets above a set value, including gifts from relatives abroad.
He said the former Department of Internal Affairs had also been renamed the Department of Ethics and Integrity.
The EFCC recovered about N288.1 billion in federal and state tax obligations, including N173.2 billion federally and N114.9 billion through state revenue services.
“This is fiscal value recovered through enforcement of existing obligations, not through the imposition of new taxes,” he said.
Between October 1, 2023, and June 30, 2026, the EFCC recovered N1.23tn, $684.48m, £373,905.78 and €9.34m.
It released N661.32 billion and $492.37 million to beneficiaries during the period.
